Panax ginseng has been used in traditional Chinese medicine for thousands of years. Today, it is one of the most popular herbal medicines in the world.

Panax ginseng is a perennial plant that grows in the cool, mountainous climates of East Asia. The plant produces flowers, red berries and thick, fleshy roots. These roots are highly valued for their therapeutic properties.

The effects of ginseng have been studied extensively. In fact, ginseng is one of the most well researched herbs. There are more than 6,000 published studies on Panax ginseng in PubMed.

Panax ginseng is also known as red ginseng, Chinese ginseng, Asian ginseng and Korean ginseng.

What are the Benefits of Panax Ginseng?

The word panax comes from Greek, loosely translated as “all healing.” The English word ginseng derives from the Chinese term rénshen in Chinese – which means is “man root.” The literal translation for the term Panax ginseng is “all healing man root.”

Therefore, it should come as no surprise that Panax ginseng has many benefits. People have traditionally taken ginseng to help with a range of conditions, both as a preventive and as a treatment. It was used to build up resistance to stress and disease and to help recuperate after an illness, injury or surgery.

Panax ginseng is an adaptogen. It is believed to bring the body back into balance, normalizing body functions and strengthening systems that are compromised by stress. In other words, ginseng protects against stress and stress-related disorders.

Ginseng regulates many systems in the body including the immune system, reproductive system, and neurological system.

Researchers believe ginsenosides are the key active ingredients responsible for the benefits of Panax ginseng.

Ginsenosides are natural compounds that are unique to plants that belong to the Panax genus. They demonstrate special biological activity and medicinal value. Panax ginseng contains more than 100 different ginsenosides.

Ginsenosides have been shown to have a variety of beneficial effects, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anticancer properties. Other active constituents found in ginseng include polysaccharides, peptides, and trace elements.

Antler Farms® Panax Ginseng is a high quality, potent ginseng supplement, standardized to contain a minimum of 10% ginsenosides.

HIGH IN ANTIOXIDANTS: Panax ginseng is renowned for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. It has been shown to help detoxify the body of harmful chemicals and help protect against oxidative stress. The research suggests that ginsenosides target immune system pathways that ultimately combat inflammation. They reduce cytokines related to inflammation and to help regulate cortisol levels.

INCREASES ENERGY: Panax ginseng is a natural energy booster. It promotes long-lasting, balanced energy and enhances your ability for sustained physical activity. It can reduce physical fatigue, especially in those with chronic illnesses, with long term use.

Some components in ginseng, like polysaccharides and oligopeptides, lower oxidative damage and increase energy production in cells.

BOOSTS MENTAL PERFORMANCE: Panax ginseng has been shown to improve mental performance such as concentration, memory and mood. The basis of ginseng’s action is believed to be due to certain chemical agents that increase brain activity and blood flow. Ginseng also shows promise for preventing and treating many of the most severe neurological diseases.

STRENGTHENS IMMUNE SYSTEM: Panax ginseng is well known as an immune modulator that strengthens the immune system. It has been used for regulating immune function and enhancing resistance to illness. Its immune boosting properties are derived from its ginsenosides and polysaccharides. Ginseng plays a tremendous role in combating bacterial and viral infections as well as autoimmune diseases.

HELPS SEXUAL PERFORMANCE: Panax ginseng can enhance sexual performance. For men, ginseng may be a useful alternative for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. It may protect against oxidative stress in blood vessels and tissues in the penis to help restore normal function. It also relaxes blood vessels which increases blood flow to the penis, similar to how medications like Viagra and Cialis work.

For women, Panax ginseng can improve sex drive, sexual function and relieve the symptoms of menopause.

LOWERS BLOOD SUGAR: Panax ginseng can help normalize blood sugar levels in people with diabetes. Studies show that ginseng can improve glucose tolerance and insulin resistance in both healthy and diabetic people.

How is Antler Farms® Panax Ginseng Harvested?

Our Panax ginseng is cultivated outdoors on USDA organic certified farms in the renowned Jilin Province of China. No herbicides, pesticides, or artificial fertilizers are used.

China was the first country to discover, cultivate and process ginseng for medical purposes. In the country, ginseng is known as "the King of Herbs" due to its status as the most important herb in Chinese medicine.

In the Jilin Province, at the foot of the Changbai Mountains, the rich, fertile soil and cool, humid weather creates the ideal conditions for ginseng plants to grow. This region is the largest ginseng cultivation area on earth, accounting for 70% of the global production. The finest Panax ginseng in the world is grown in the Jilin Province, with its reputation of excellence, quality and consistency.

Panax ginseng is a slow growing plant. Young ginseng simply will not have the right chemical content to create an effective herbal supplement. The ginsenoside levels in ginseng vary from root to root depending on factors including the age of the roots, climate, altitude, and soil conditions.

For its roots to reach maturity and generate its adaptogenic qualities, ginseng must grow for four to six years. The long growth period is what makes the supply of real Panax ginseng very limited and thus, expensive. At the peak of potency, our Panax ginseng is harvested entirely by hand to ensure the roots are left intact. Afterwards, the roots are washed and sorted in preparation for the extraction process.

How is Antler Farms® Panax Ginseng Extract Processed?

We use modern, advanced, state of the art equipment to perform the most efficient extraction of our Panax ginseng.

Because the method of extraction greatly influences the quality of the ginseng, we employ strict quality control on all aspects of the manufacturing process. This guarantees that Antler Farms® Panax Ginseng Extract meets our high standards.

The process begins with multiple sessions of steaming and drying the Panax ginseng. This converts the material from raw ginseng to red ginseng. Steaming the raw material transforms and amplifies its ginsenosides, dramatically boosting its potency. It also increases the herb's antioxidant and vasodilator qualities.

Then, eco-friendly subcritical water extraction is performed. This pulls the nutritional components out of the ginseng without the use of alcohol or other chemicals. Once the active ingredients have been extracted, the extract is filtered and purified in chromatographic columns. After purification, the water is evaporated (which increases the concentration) and spray dried.

Finally, the dried extract is milled and sieved. Our products are regularly tested for agricultural, biological and environmental impurities. The ginseng extract powder undergoes additional in-house testing to confirm its ginsenoside content before being encapsulated for sale.

Antler Farms® Panax Ginseng is 100% pure, organic, red Panax ginseng extract, with a guaranteed 10% ginsenoside content.

It contains no alcohol, chemicals, fillers, additives or binders. Just pure, clean Panax ginseng.

What is the Difference Between White Ginseng, Red Ginseng, American Ginseng and Siberian Ginseng?

Asian, Korean and Chinese ginseng are all different names for the same species of plant (Panax ginseng). The names reflect the region that it was grown, but their chemical composition is more or less identical.

White ginseng and red ginseng are variations of Panax ginseng. The difference between the two comes from the way Panax ginseng is processed after harvest. Panax ginseng root is white in color in its natural state. When raw ginseng is dried, it is sold white ginseng. But when it is steamed and dried, the skin becomes reddish in color, and it is sold as red ginseng.

Heating Panax ginseng significantly transforms its active ingredients in a positive way. Naturally occurring ginsenosides are converted into other types of ginsenosides which are generally believed to be more powerful. Therefore, red ginseng has significantly higher biological effects compared to white ginseng.

American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) is a different species of ginseng, but closely related to Panax ginseng. Its ginsenoside composition produces a relaxing and sedative effect, while the Asian ginseng has an invigorating and stimulating effect.

Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus) is completely different from Asian and American ginseng. Because Siberian ginseng does not contain any ginsenosides, it is not considered a “true” ginseng.

Be particularly cautious when purchasing Panax ginseng supplements. Real Panax ginseng with a high concentration of ginsenosides, like Antler Farms® Panax Ginseng Extract, is costly to produce.

Many commercially available ginseng supplements actually contain little or no ginseng at all. Others contain low quality, impure, ineffective ginseng. One study found that less than half of the products on the market did not disclose the ginsenoside content or did not meet the label's quoted ginsenoside levels when tested.
